Estimates only. Assumptions are listed below, and you can change every input.

Quotes for a luxury outdoor kitchen tend to arrive as a single number, and it is hard to tell whether that number is fair or where the money actually went. Most of the cost hides in four places: the masonry or framed structure that carries the counter, the grill and appliance package, the gas, water, and electrical runs, and whatever roof or pergola sits over the whole thing. Owners who separate those lines before they talk to a builder negotiate from a far stronger position.

This estimator multiplies your counter length by an installed per-foot rate for the structure and countertop, adds the appliance, utility, and shelter budgets you enter, then applies a contingency percentage for the surprises every outdoor build produces. Nothing here is a quote. It is a planning figure that becomes accurate only when you replace the defaults with numbers from your own market and your own wish list.

How to use this tool

  1. Measure or sketch the total run of counter you want, in linear feet, including the island and any back bar.
  2. Enter your appliance wish list total, what the trades quoted for gas, water, drain, and electrical runs, and any pergola or roof budget.
  3. Adjust the per-foot rate and the contingency to match quotes in your area, then read the total budget and the all-in cost per foot.

What the math assumes

  • The per-foot rate covers the counter structure, cabinet or masonry base, finish veneer, and countertop, installed; the default of 650 USD per foot is a placeholder you should replace with local quotes.
  • Contingency is applied to the full subtotal, and the default of 12 percent is a planning reserve, not a rule; adjust it to your appetite for surprises.
  • Design fees, permits, and site preparation such as grading or a new concrete pad are not included unless you fold them into one of the inputs.
  • All figures are in US dollars and assume a single continuous build; phasing the project across several seasons usually raises the total.
  • The estimate does not adjust for regional labor rates beyond what you enter in the per-foot rate and the utility line.

Frequently asked questions

What does the installed per-foot rate actually include?

It stands for the base that carries the counter, whether that is block and stucco, framed steel with veneer, or prefabricated cabinetry, plus the countertop and the labor to build both. Appliances, utilities, and shelter are entered on their own lines so you can see them separately.

Should the grill go in the appliance budget or the structure line?

In the appliance budget. Everything that arrives in a crate and drops into a cutout belongs there, including the grill, side burner, refrigerator, sink, and access doors.

Is a contingency really necessary on a well-planned build?

Outdoor projects meet rock, roots, buried lines, and weather that indoor renovations never see, and most owners upgrade at least one appliance once the framing is up. A reserve keeps those moments from turning into a stalled project.
